2011 chevy camero less than 10,000k miles. Driving in traffic in maybe a 1% grade hill. Burning smell, the car wouldn't catch in 1st or 2nd gear. Lost all acceleration, had to cross multiple lanes on the highway. Sat in the car for over 2 hours for towing company. Then shop test drove next day, gears work, but bad burning smell continues. Shipped to Chevrolet. I did research online and see multiple people have this problem. This is a safety hazard and it placed my life into danger!.

Car has been repaired by dealer multiple times along with replacement of brand new parts on vehicle. Even after all of the repairs the transmission does not properly work. The transmissions will prevent you from engaging into first gear and second gear at certain times. I have researched the transmission and know that this is not an operating feature of the vehicle. In addition, there have been other vehicle in the past that have been equipped with this transmission and have the same exact issues. General motors has provided warranty work on the vehicle but problems still persist even after a new trasmission and new clutch have been put in the vehicle. I feel unsafe at times to be driving this car when it prevents me from downshifting into certain gears.

After only 12,500 miles and 9 months, the clutch in my 2011 v6 Camaro LS burnt out. The dealership is telling me that it looks like I drove it 'aggressively. ' I have not, as it is my only vehicle and I obviously need it for work. They are not covering the clutch because it is 500 miles over my 'wearable parts warranty. ' now I have sent an email complaining about the issue to Chevrolet and they are sending a regional technician out to look at the car. But the fact remains that this is a common issue (check the Camaro5. Com forums) and should be fixed somehow.

Second gear grind . 2011 Camaro LS. Six speed transmission. Second gear grind occurs with every up shift or down shift . This occurs during acceleration and deacceleration. At times car will not go into second gear at all causing concern for safety . I have contacted gm who has addressed the issue once but the repair was made with the same defective products. The issue returned after 3,000 miles. The attempted repair was. Synchronizers, new first and second gears, ball bearings and forks. Again after 3,000 miles the grind and second gear failure has returned and what appears to be worse then the first time. My car has not been modified and is full stock.

I have been experiencing an intermittent problem when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Mathematical modeling ppt. While merging into traffic from a stop and going into 2nd gear it grinds and is difficult to go into gear. This problem causes me to let off the gas and the re-compress the clutch and try to put the car into 2nd gear. Due to my decrease of speed and attempting to merge into traffic this could cause a serious accident when the grind happens. I have reported my problem to gm customer service and have not heard anything about what they are going to do to fix this problem. There has not been any corrective action by gm. While driving I take extra precaution to ensure there is no vehicles around when I turn at an intersection or when merging into traffic on the highway. I have read that there is a similar problem with other car manufacturers with this transmission and they have corrected the problem or are in the process of correcting the problem on their vehicles.

2018 Camaro Manual Transmission

The new Chevrolet Camaro has a defect in the manual transmission causing the clutch to burn out after only a few thousand miles. This problem is well recognized over the internet and clearly gm knows about it because they have already designed a new clutch which was installed on my car last week. However they did not notify me as a new owner of this potentially dangerous defect and did not even notify my dealer until I brought the car in. I knew there was a problem a month ago but never considered the possibility of a clutch problem in a car with only 5,000 miles on it. Had I known of the problem, I would have brought the car in electively rather than after I could no longer get into 1st gear or reverse!.

Bad manual transmissions in the f-body's concerning the six speed. I have a 2000 Camaro ss with 34000 miles on it and my original transmission's 5th gear went out at 14000, note my car is not under warranty because of a reconditioned title. But I have purchased another used 6 speed from a local recycling yard and 3rd gear was out of it. Finally I found a local recycler that could get me a rebuilt transmission. Purchased it and installed with all 6 gears ok but now reverse is grinding. My complaint is that I don't see any recalls yet on these transmissions with me finding this many problems just to make my car ok and also my labor charges are exceeding the cost of a used unit now.

Once the vehicle warms up, the shift skip (which locks you out of 2nd gear when doing 'rabbit' starts if properly working) tends to lock me out of 2nd and 3rd gears both on a consistant basis. I have nearly been hit by a truck and a metro bus as this problem is very unpredictable and it has locked me out of all gears several times. I do not use this vehicle as a 'hot rod' or pleasure rod, it is my daily driver to work and I put about 130 miles a day on it and I need a dependable car 7 days a week.

The 1999 Camaro has a dangerous so called 'feature' called 'skip shift' which prevents shifting from 1st to 2nd gear under certain circumstances. Twice I was making a left turn and was unable to shift into 2nd gear - I was stuck without power and cars were coming at me. Several other times this happened while driving straight ahead, and I lost power with cars coming up behind me. Chevy refused to disable this 2nd gear lockout for me, saying that it is needed to meet environmental regulations - or to avoid a gas guzzler tax. This 'feature' is dangerous and should be disabled. I wouldn't have bought the car if I knew about it - unfortunately it didn't happen on my test drive because 'skip shift' only locks you out after the engine has been warmed up sufficiently. This lockout also tends to make the car shift into 4th gear - which is dangerous at 15 mph because there is little power at that speed in 4th gear. There is a light on the dashboard warning about skip shift, but it is hidden by my hand on the steering wheel or by the wheel itself when making a left turn. The warning light is useless anyway because driver's eyes are on the road when shifting gears. As admitted by chevy, this whole 'skip shift' lockout is a way to avoid paying a gas guzzler tax, but it makes driving dangerous since shifting into 2nd gear becomes impossible.

I have experienced problems with the stock shifter causing mis-shifts. I am a member on a bbs and there have been numerous entries refering to this problem. Due to the shifter, it is very easy to mis-shift into a lower gear when upshifting. So far has happened to me twice and causes the rear tires to loose control since the engine causes them to nearly stop. I am an experienced manual transmission driver and I have never had this problem before. A worst case senario would be to loose complete control due to the rear tires locking up and also engine damage due to over-revving. There isn't a recall for the shifter so no dealer help can be found. So far others have resolved this problem by replacing the shifter with an aftermarket unit and report no more problems with missed shifts. I hope something can be done before someone gets hurt.

Not every Chevy Camaro packs a muscular V-8 and a manual transmission, which makes it accessible and desirable to most driving enthusiasts. Available as a sporty coupe and sun-loving convertible, the 2020 Camaro has unique styling that's ripe for customization. While its cabin feels cramped and its roof ruins outward visibility, the pony car is endlessly enjoyable to drive. A dutiful four-cylinder and spunky V-6 are the most affordable engines, but Chevy's brilliant 6.2-liter V-8 sounds great and goes like stink. An incredible performance package—called 1LE—is available on all coupes and transforms them into versatile track machines. Still, the 2020 Camaro continues the nameplate's tradition of offering something for everyone.

What's New for 2020?

One year after the Camaro received a mid-cycle refresh, Chevy has again updated the front-end styling of the 2020 Camaro SS and all-new LT1 model. The change repositions the company's bowtie emblem in the top grille and paints the bar between both grilles the same color as the body. The newly added Camaro LT1 provides the most affordable way to get a V-8, with a starting price that's $3000 less than an SS model. The new LT1 model simply makes V-8 power more accessible. Still, we'd recommend a Camaro SS coupe with the standard six-speed manual transmission. Its standard 455-hp V-8 is close to perfection (unless fuel economy is a priority) and the manual gearbox is user-friendly and ultimately engaging. Sure, this combo is available on the LT1 model for less, but it requires the SS to have the phenomenal 1LE performance package. It costs another $7000, but it's well worth the money. Its copious track-ready equipment includes adaptive dampers, upgraded Brembo front brakes, electronic limited-slip diff, wider and stickier tires, and distinct interior and exterior enhancement. Best of all, the 1LE package doesn't compromise the Camaro's ride quality and livability.

Engines, Transmission, and Performance

Likes: V-6 and V-8 each have distinct character and sound, incredible performance value, transformative 1LE package.
Dislikes: Four-cylinder is overshadowed by the other engines.

The base 275-hp four-cylinder isn't slow—we tested a manual model that made it to 60 mph in an earnest 5.1 seconds. But uneven throttle responses and unpleasant, unsporting sounds accompanied its dull demeanor. On the other hand, upgrading to the 335-hp naturally aspirated V-6 completely changes the car's character. The gutsy V-6 has its own distinctly searing soundtrack and redeems generations of ho-hum six-cylinders. The Camaro LT1 and SS feature Chevy's iconic small-block V-8, with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Its linear power delivery and chest-compressing acceleration are enhanced by the optional dual-mode exhaust, which erupts with a sharp bark at startup and thunderous sounds during wide-open-throttle blasts. The standard six-speed manual transmission maintains the enthusiast spirit, and the 10-speed automatic is now available with the V-6.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The Chevy's four-cylinder engine has the highest EPA estimates, while the V-6 and V-8 versions performed well in our real-world testing. We've tested each of the Camaro's three available engines—paired with the six-speed manual—and they were all within 1 mpg (plus or minus) of their EPA highway estimates.

Interior, Infotainment, and Cargo

Likes: Optional Recaro front seats are supportive without being restrictive, effortless touchscreen operation.
Dislikes: Notoriously bad outward visibility, almost unusable back seat, comically small trunk opening.

The Camaro interior is an improvement versus the previous generation, with better materials and a more modern look. Its comfortable front seats and straightforward layout are high points, but its torturously small back seat and compromised visibility inhibit livability. An optional head-up display is useful and not offered on the Dodge Challenger or Mustang. The Camaro also can be equipped with customizable ambient interior lighting, which adds a cool appearance.

Every Camaro has a user-friendly touchscreen that supports Chevy's latest infotainment software—called Infotainment 3. While the large touchscreen fills the space better, the plastic bezel looks chintzy, and its downward angle is awkward. Otherwise, its mix of controls and organized menus is appreciated. Chevy's setup has everything standard—intuitive controls, attractive menus, responsive feedback, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

The Camaro outshines its rivals on the track and in the fun-to-drive department but is outmatched in terms of cargo space and storage. It held the least amount of carry-on luggage, and it has even less interior storage than its already stingy rivals.
